Wordpress.com limits your ability to install your own plugins, themes, sell products, etc. unless you pay them for the higher cost pro plan, and even then, you're limited by their platform. Getting hosting through another company and installing Wordpress from wordpress.org means you're getting more features at a much lower cost, and will let you do more things in the future. (Like create your own branded subdomains, manage branded email, sell memberships to a course or something, whatever you want really).

You seem to have been in the game long enough, any runnings with ghost.org for web hosting? Bar the lack of plugins, any significant limitations - as compared to wordpress.org ?
