So basically what you are doing here is to tag some directories with different label and save these tags in a file that can be queried with later, am I understand you correctly? What's the benefits of using extended attributes over solutions like bookmark in Emacs? I don't know much about extended attrs but from your description it seems not hard to implement it in elisp without the Dolphin dependency. If you really want this, perhaps open a discussion and see how other people think about it.
