Thats because of ARK's awfully compressed files, heard about people loosing 600GB to it. Use this, my game after running it only takes like 108GB even with the 2 DLCs I have and all the mods I have installed, this game was made in 7months so I guess properly compressing their files like other games was not considered, and dont worry compactor is not gonna break the game, only thing I noticed is that it resets your hand map progress as in its blank like if you never explored but that only happens the first time you run it so you should be fine to run it again if theres updates or mods you want to install
