I'm making an OS in Rust and I recently ditched build.rs files for just which resulted in significantly lower build times. I have separated the bootloader from the kernel so I can make it cross-architecture/cross-bootloader. After compiling the kernel I create a static library out of it and force the linker to link with it through the RUSTFLAGS environment variable.
