For non publishing purposes, I highly recommend Obsidian. (https://obsidian.md/). It’s a markdown editing tool that allows you to easily link pegs together like a wiki or mind-map. If you know a little html+css you can use Homebrewery https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/ and edit the style (i made a little tutorial here https://archangelruling.blogfree.net/?t=6247613) to remove the default 5e style. I made many things with it and as you can see you can obtain many different effects with little to no effort (an example here https://barakielthearchangel.itch.io/un-patto-con-la-morte)
