Unsure how to do it with qgis. however it seems to be simple with Tippecanoe..here. They seem to have some examples that show what you need to do in the readme.

If you have some issues with the mapvox version there is a more updated version by protomaps here. However homebrew won't install this so it might get tricky if you don't know command line very well.
