Command Line Interface (CLI)

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/Streamfab

Our great sponsors
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • PlayPass

PlayPass: Automated queuing engine for PlayLater

But there are other alternatives. PlayOn is a graphical streaming recorder but someone wrote a way to record items via a CLI that still worked last time I gave it a try (https://github.com/CodePenguin/PlayPass). Not sure about AnyStream or Audials.

  • yt-dlp

    A feature-rich command-line audio/video downloader

Depending on where you want to record from, YouTube-DL is a very good CLI option. The actual original project is not as active as it once was, however, an offshoot fork of the project is thriving and doing well (https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp). While this project started off focused on downloading YouTube videos, it supports many, many content sites on the internet. It largely can't for premium DRM'd content like HBO, Disney, Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, Apple, services like that. But it can grab content from a lot of social media sites, YouTube, network TV, and cable TV content sites.

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.

  • FFmpeg

    Mirror of https://git.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.git

If your question is really focused on the conversion process itself, many tools including mine utilize FFMPEG (https://ffmpeg.org/), a CLI tool for video transformation. You can always use that directly to get similar results.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
