An easy method to fix all of this is to download/install OpenJK. This is basically a community maintained build of the game, which fixes masterserver list problems and updates the game to work with new hardware etc.
I use both of them? Not sure if thats a thing but I wasn't sure if EternalJK did this as well, which it appears to. Either one will work for OP though. :)
