Packer
Packer is a tool for creating identical machine images for multiple platforms from a single source configuration.
You should also checkout distrobox which is essentially similar to toolbox but geared towards installing other distributions if there's stuff available for say, the debian distro children that you'd like handled through a package manager instead of compiling and manually checking for updates.
I subscribed to "the path most traveled is easiest to walk on" dictum, which is like a complete 180. I don't even run ZFS anymore, which was a HUGE deal to me for a long time. Whatever distro it was, it HAD to run ZFS. I scripted automatic in-kernel ZFS recompilation so I could have more reliable kernels for my builds (take THAT, GPL+CDDL incompatibility), because ZFS rules despite what Linus Torvalds says, and using a supported filesystem for pussies.
Oooh, maybe I'll try it with packer or Foreman (or MaaS, I'm actually setting up MaaS atm...)
