You can also give OnlyOffice a try which attempts to look and act like MS Office and works to be as compatible as possible as a goal. You can use their own OnlyOffice Online Personal edition for free though. It also has nextcloud support to host it online but I'm not sure if its free though.

LibreOffice is the total FOSS answer. It doesn't try to be MS Office and though it supports Microsoft's OOXML Strict standard, MS itself does not save in its own OOXML Strict standard by default, so it can mess with compatibility a bit. Microsoft has been in transition to their OOXML standard for 15 years so far...
