i downloaded https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js/tree/93e72ba7b24958ddb0652bd33171edd14ed2d693 from the list of releases and got it to work. the problem is not the download, the problem is that the documentation doesn't work. if you open DevTools you'll see why.
