  • nntp-rs

NNTP server implementation in Rust. Diablo dhistory / spool compatible. WORK IN PROGRESS.

I was intrigued, so I did a search for a modern NNTP server. This one looks promising: https://github.com/miquels/nntp-rs. A WIP, but sounds like it can handle all READER commands.

  • sydent

    Sydent: Reference Matrix Identity Server

I would go for Matrix over an NNTP server if you want a group of you to collaborate. Setting up Matrix is going to be less headache than setting up all the bits and bobs necessary to get NNTP to work. Even Mozilla closed down their news server and moved to Matrix.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • nntp-proxy

simple NNTP proxy with SSL support

if not, who not simply use a nntp proxy like https://github.com/nieluj/nntp-proxy ?

  • Zulip

Zulip server and web application. Open-source team chat that helps teams stay productive and focused.

Another option that I don't see mentioned enough is Zulip. Don't let the IM looking interface turn you off, the idea of topics feels very much like the individual threads in NNTP without the email cruft.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
