  Add cloze deletions to any existing Anki notes without any modification to Anki

Sure. Slightly difficult to describe the context. I use the Anki Cloze Anything add-on to generate cloze deletion cards on regular cards. It requires sentences to be marked up like My ((c1::dog)) barks a lot. But when that sentence is display on a regular card the markup has to be removed. I use JS for that. Not big deal, but a more sophisticated templating engine could do that (potentially) through native tags.
