I wrote my own HTTP client. I wrote up blog post about it where I explain why I like it better than the alternatives (naturally). This one hides the net/http types, so it ends up not being very extensible. It’s fine if you only ever need JSON, but ideally (and in reality with my package 😉) one helper could do it all.
