Complete noob here- I salvaged this 7 segment display from a skip and would like to make a raspberry pi driven clock out of them. I have two of these, each with two digits. Is there a better way to drive them? I have used up 8 GPIO pins and all of my resistors so far and only driving one digit.

There is one other neat trick called "Charlie-plexing" where you take advantage of high-Z pin states and the diode nature of the segments to conserve I/O: see https://github.com/xesscorp/StickIt/tree/master/modules/LedDigits
