I personally hope for this issue to gain more traction. If the TypeScript compiler could swallow a .ts file extension, perhaps somebody could write a post-compiler tool that would turn all content with imports ending in .ts into .js(Which I think is a typescript compiler problem and should be solved there, really) and could be our knight in shining armor.
