  • I wanted to try https://www.theodinproject.com/ , they said to use linux. I had an unusable old laptop laying around and heard that it could be revived be linux a few times and wanting to do the course was the thing that finally made me try it. I participated in the course for a little while and never came back to the pc again. Eventually I figured out that I could revive the 2011 macbook I had laying around the same way, got Mint up on it, switched to i3, than to Void Linux, learned about software freedom and got rid of all things corporate and proprietary from my life (apparently not reddit) and that's where we are now.

  • FreeCAD

This is the official source code of FreeCAD, a free and opensource multiplatform 3D parametric modeler.

  • You ever try to manufacture anything difficult on a budget smaller than 20k? Linux it is. I make carbon bicycle handlebars, in large part with FreeCAD.
