The counter shows the number of blocked requests, which includes but isn't limited to ads. A steadily increasing number of blocked requests the longer one stays on them is normal for all streaming sites that try to send frequent "pings" that get blocked (because they're unnecessary for the sites to function and presumably only serve to profile the user). You can use the logger to find out what exactly is happening. Unless a site goes haywire (e. g. because of a badly programmed script reacting to a filter) and starts generating thousands upon thousands of requests per minute that uBO then blocks, the number doesn't really matter.
