Because the loader for the mods (dalamud) needs to be injected by something, and if you're concerned it's open source. And while most people aren't, they should be concerned and look over it, but they lack either the knowledge or they're just too damn lazy and decide "eh, other people are using it." Personally I've looked over it, and I check out the diffs every time there's an update, and it's good enough for me.
