If you want a tool to make hosting the server locally easier, I'd suggest FASTER. The discord community is quite active and readily answers any questions, which is a bonus.
For anything more advanced, you might want to look into extDB3. But the learning curve there is pretty steep, but there are lots of answers on the forums for getting everything set up. The benefit being the data is stored in SQL db files, which can be modified and opened externally.
