  • MonitorControl

🖥 Control your display's brightness & volume on your Mac as if it was a native Apple Display. Use Apple Keyboard keys or custom shortcuts. Shows the native macOS OSDs.

  • A bit misleading. Sure macOS does not naively have this feature. I been using Monitor Control [1] which talks via I2C DDC [2] to my 2 Dell monitors w/o issue. It can also update monitor volume and keep it in sync.

  • CEC is completely different from DDC.

You would use CEC to mostly send commands that a TV/AVR remote would have.

While DDC has been created with computer monitors in mind, for controlling things like brightness, contrast, volume, input etc.

I’ve also wanted to use CEC for my Volum app to control AVR devices (https://lowtechguys.com/Volum). But I had to go with the HTTP API route and only support the AVRs that have network controls because CEC is absolutely not available on the Mac.

Source: I’m the developer of Lunar (https://lunar.fyi) another app for controlling monitors through DDC.
