TrueNAS being so locked in is why it’s a pain to work with ime, having to go through a lot just to have storage persistence, port forwarding or ssl on my containers, having to use custom templates, it got old quick. Considering you already got TrueNAS setup, try using TrueCharts, they have a lot of “Apps” which are just preconfigured Docker pods that make it easier to use.
