Yeah, agree, very frustrating. I didn’t want to leave Firefox, so started looking for an alternative. I stumbled upon https://github.com/akhodakivskiy/VimFx. It solves the issue.
As an aside for macOS, I recently tried out Vimac that give you Vimium-like features for scrolling windows w/ hjkl and f-like clickiness. I use Hyper+h (remembered as "hint") and Hyper+t (remembered as "travel" or "to") for scrolling to use my index and middle fingers on Dvorak.
Honorable mentions to the cross-platform term. emulator Alacritty for it's usable vi-mode to copy stuff to the sys. clipboard. It's missing stuff like zz zt and zb, etc.
