Scala's Gitter to Discord migration mistake

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/scala

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • Zulip

Zulip server and web application. Open-source team chat that helps teams stay productive and focused.

Our Laminar community is still on Gitter out of inertia. I doubt that we will move to Discord, that's just trading one pain for another. I think we will eventually give Zulip a shot – it's open source, self hostable, and they offer free hosting for open source projects. Their public-access feature is rather limited, but still a better story than Discord. The app itself is an interesting mix of chat and forum thread format. It's not as popular as Discord, but it's used by some Rust teams for example.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.
