Other than that, have a look at xsv. That's a program that takes CSV and indexes it to make it queryable. Not that CSV matters here, but the idea might inspire you to go more in the direction of using a database and indexing it to your liking. (You could potentially also output your path list above as CSV and pipe that to xsv and go from there).
