You should check out https://github.com/dosco/graphjin or hasura. SQL to GraphQL transpilation is amazing and can almost eliminate the need to write a custom backend. Your database schema becomes the service definition (you can explicitly annotate it to govern what is public and what parts of the database are an "implementation detail."
