Please download TegraRcmGUI and Hekate. Once you have them, run the RcmGUI file and connect your Switch to your PC. You should see "RCM OK." Then, select the Hekate BIN file and click "Inject Payload." Hekate should boot up.

No you would not. If you're in SysMMC, it's completely safe to update, but you should update Atmosphere first! It's likely that you're running an older version of Atmosphere that doesn't support the latest Switch software. Just download it from Github and replace the atmosphere folder on your SD card.
Lockpick is a tool used to extract and dump your console's product keys, which can be useful if you need to do things like dump your firmware for use with Daybreak. The Homebrew version has been superseded, though; the current incarnation is Lockpick_RCM, which is launched as a payload through Hekate. You can safely delete this one.
