You can check out ente.io which is basically a google photos only replacement. Or you can consider a regular cloud/drive service like pCloud, Filen.io (feature coming soon), IceDrive, etc. which have autoupload features similar to google photos.

If what you want is only to back them up with auto-upload then there is many alternatives as bad as google like Microsoft and Amazon, or not as bad like pCloud, Mega, and ente.io. There is also Syncthing to your desktop or self hosting options like photoprism and others like it. With Nextcloud you can also auto-upload and do much more, almost a complete Google Drive replacement. Either self host or using a provider. (Nextcloud is my solution). With all that being said, if you are looking a feature by feature replacement that respect privacy there is none. The next best thing that I know of is using the Synology option that has a photos app with similar features to google.
