I noticed that DevilutionX, a Diablo 1 engine remake with enhancements, has an app image so it should work well on Steam Deck. Are there any similar projects that would work well with the steam deck?

There is Luxtorpeda (https://github.com/dreamer/luxtorpeda) to easily run some Steam games with an open source engine instead of the original game engine. I doesn't support devilutionX but you can ask them to add support for it.
