Mods that have a lot of fluid crafting will often let you use a fluid container instead of checking for the specific bucket item. For example, Immersive Engineering's Treated Wood recipe. IE also has the Jerrycan which can hold 10 buckets of fluid (10,000 mb), which means you can do 10 crafts at a time (80 Treated Wood) basically right off the bat.
Of course the base game and Forge don't have support for that, so it's a custom handler added by the individual mod. The easier recipe to make is to use the literal bucket item in the recipe, such as Create's Dough recipe using the crafting table (though it gets a pass by having an alternate recipe available using a fan + water instead).
