You put your development utilities in their own containers, either via toolbox https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-silverblue/toolbox/ or distrobox https://github.com/89luca89/distrobox . That way you get a unbreakable OS that can take care of everything itself (updating flatpak applications and updating itself). All the cruft is tacked away in designated development environments. That way you can also work on projects requiring different versions of the same things hassle free for example. Or you can e.g. use Arch and AUR for something that has very recent dependencies, while your base OS is solid Silverblue
