  • aria2

aria2 is a lightweight multi-protocol & multi-source, cross platform download utility operated in command-line. It supports HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, SFTP, BitTorrent and Metalink.

If you just need to copy a few files from A to B, dragging in the entire filesystem API is overkill. You don't need locking, directory caching, atomic rename, block mapping, fsync, user ID translation, mmaping, etc. You can't make trade-offs like "if there is a network problem, do this instead", because the filesystem MUST hide all that from you. You can't decide "this file should be downloaded with 10 concurrent connections to make it faster".
