If you want simple and lightweight, go with lldap for your directory (its new but the dev is competent, active and responsive), and Authelia for authentication. Forget about SAML and use the OIDC provider built into Authelia. Forget about SMB shares and use a web based file index protected by Authelia. Just use WPA2-PSK.
