Additionally, I'm a big fan of Promises (or Promise-like structures like ReactiveX implementations), and not having a clear start and end points to animations seemed insane to me. The stuff I saw people doing with setTimeouts was horrible. Thankfully the CSS library I use (which is also used be StreamLabs' ChatBox btw) had a nice helper function in their docs to make Promises out of animations, and so that made it possible to reason about the state of everything while using async/await and avoid glitchy-ness.
