  • I wouldn't say so. Some games work right out of the box. Valve knows why they are shipping linux and how to make games work right out of the box. Granted, I use proton/wine a lot. But personally, i havent had to do much tweaking. Lutris can do all the heavy work. For epic games there are third party launchers that can access epic games that are native to linux Ex: Heroic Launcher github: https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher. Lutris can do a lot of heavy lifting, besides, lutris is on flatpak (the native application hub that the steam deck is advertised to work with) you should not have a problem, or need to enter the terminal to get lutris and far cry + other games and launchers working. I like tinkering in a terminal, but i get that is not for many people. if you want to learn how proton performs on your current gaming rig, you can install manjaro kde https://manjaro.org/downloads/official/kde/ (linux distro valve recommends for simular performance and user interface) alongside windows. There are tutorials on youtube and help on reddit if you get stuck. There is a lot of help surrounding linux, and the linux gaming community as a whole. I would not worry about proton combability as some devs are already starting to work with the proton team to make their games compatible.
