age - The latest rabbit hole I've looked at. This looks very interesting - the tool is simple and offers what appears to be some nice flexibility. But the 'cons' appear to be that it's new, and with that comes the fact that it is significantly more difficult to dig up non-expert level documentation. The general consensus seems to be that the tool is well designed using modern best practices. I've checked out the github and their format specification, but haven't really found anything that compares the security it offers to anything like aes or rsa.
