i3
Discontinued A fork of the i3 window manager with gaps and some other features. :warning: i3-gaps has been merged into i3. (by Airblader)
i do believe a good start is i3 (or i3-gaps), it's not extremely hard to setup and a lot of people use it. also it comes with a reasonable start configuration and the "language" it is configured in isn't hard to read or understand.

my personal favourite is bspwm and sxhkd, together it's super satisfying for some reason.

If you dont use NVIDIA I recommend SwayWM over i3. It is a clone of i3 but it is a Wayland compositor instead of an X11 WM. I personally find it easier to use, and a bit higher quality (specifically, no issues with screen tearing or refresh rates on multi-monitor setups, which can be an issue on X11). This page highlights a few functional differences between sway and i3.

Spectrwm is by far the most beginner-friendly WM I've ever tested. Im now running EXWM the buffers management is something else.
