    WireGuard for Ubiquiti Devices

  • I run this exact setup to have an external DNS ad blocker when away from home because I have no open ports at home and slow upload speeds. It also doubles as a VPN gateway with a route pointed back at my home subnet in case I want to watch Plex, etc. A micro Oracle cloud VPS is free forever and mine has been up for, I dunno, at least a year or more now. I connect from my home OPNsense firewall via permanent WireGuard tunnel and via iPhone or Android phone using the WireGuard app. It works very well and you only have to point your devices to a private IP for DNS resolution. You also don’t have to open up your server to the public internet on anything but your VPN port. I suggest first reading up on WireGuard on their website and/or somewhere like the Debian Wiki first. Then, maybe check out pivpn.io for a quick and easy way to set up both a tunnel and a Pi-hole in the cloud on a Debian server.
