How long does it realistically take to become a medium/senior sysadmin, and which career path would you take?

  • So, this is a funny question to me. Hot take, the whole concept of a Linux server is heading towards obsolete. At the bleeding edge of infra, where sysadmins are talking about "cattle not pets", we don't even have cattle anymore. We have a hive of drone insects. If you look at Linux distros Flatcar or Bottlerocket, there's nothing you can even install at the OS level. Everything is containers now.
