Do you really need to close Notepad every time you want to test your program? Can't you just save the file and switch to the browser and refresh the page? Personally I use Geany to edit HTML, PHP, CSS and JS files (for quick edits I sometimes use gedit/pluma which I consider Linux's equivalent of Notepad, although admittedly a bit more suitable for editing code).
