For me they're all really much of a muchness. It all just depends on how you consume your content and what's convenient for you. By how you get your content i mean do you primarily stream on your laptop via netflix/hulu/disney+? do you torrent download? Do you use a media player (e.g. amazon fire stick)? Do you use software like Popcorn Time or KODI? Do you use websites like Look Movie?
That's the basic idea, and you can see how it is a setup you could spend $20 or $2000 and very little time or many hours on on depending on how far you want to go (custom mini-PC, custom server-build, fully automated setup). If it sounds like something you're interested in, I would start with Kodi and Libreelec to learn more.
