My advice is to start with a simpler tileset, like 2d knots, check if the algorithm works there. If it does, move to 3d knots. If it works for 3d knots, move to the simplest possible building tileset. If it works for simple buildings, move to your (pretty complex) buildings. You'll probably catch a lot of bugs along the way.
