Another option that someone might offer as "better" is not to use Vulkan but, for example, wgpu. (On the technical side there shouldn't be many disadvantages, unless you target high-end or new GPU capabilities; as to documentation there is at least the tutorial that appears to be up-to-date. I'm not sure how much good documentation exists beyond that, though.)
Vulkano's website is terrible, yeah, and I'm not really encouraging you to use it, but fyi, the updated examples from their repo are… up-to-date. And they're exceptionally well-commented. So if you run out of options (which I have), take a look at the most recent triangle.rs.
