I like having the root partition as btrfs so I can roll back any changes I make that break things. Very useful for me because I like to tinker around with stuff. The timeshift application is fantastic for this. I don't bother backing up my root partition. If it dies it dies and I'll just go for a fresh install or distro hop for bit.
