Linus Tech Tips switches his personal PC to Pop_OS.

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/pop_os

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • apt

    Fork of https://salsa.debian.org/apt-team/apt (by pop-os)

If I'm just installing a program, I shouldn't even have to consider that it might uninstall an essential part of the system. That's not even in the realm of possibility. And yes, it did output a warning, but the warning was mixed in with a lot of jargon that Linus couldn't be expected to understand. I think this change (where you have to create a file to allow dangerous operations like this, and it doesn't even tell you what file to create, so you'd have to search for it and would likely find severe warnings) is far better than the approach that Linus encountered.

  • flatpak-external-data-checker

A tool for checking if the external data used in Flatpak manifests is still up to date

You mean libfoo across all Flatpaks won’t get updated? That is the purpose of things like https://github.com/flathub/flatpak-external-data-checker, which are not perfect but do mostly help updating libfoos quite a bit.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.
