The talk about the NSO stuff has me thinking: What are the best N64/Genesis emulators on PC anyway?

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/emulation

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • m64p

Discontinued [Moved to: https://github.com/m64p/m64p] (by loganmc10)

For N64, so far, they are either Parallel (via Retroarch), Project 64, and Mupen64Plus, if you don't mind the emulator not having a GUI. If you do, then m64p and RMG are your best options.

  • ares

ares is a cross-platform, open source, multi-system emulator, focusing on accuracy and preservation.

    Github: https://github.com/ares-emulator/ares

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • RMG

    Rosalie's Mupen GUI

For N64, so far, they are either Parallel (via Retroarch), Project 64, and Mupen64Plus, if you don't mind the emulator not having a GUI. If you do, then m64p and RMG are your best options.

  • Genesis-Plus-GX

An enhanced port of Genesis Plus - accurate & portable Sega 8/16 bit emulator

The Titan Overdrive 2 demo runs in BlastEm, but not in GPGX. And BlastEm is still the only software emulator to show CRAM dots.

  • BizHawk

BizHawk is a multi-system emulator written in C#. BizHawk provides nice features for casual gamers such as full screen, and joypad support in addition to full rerecording and debugging tools for all system cores.

Mupen64Plus also has a standalone version with a more traditional desktop UI over at M64P, and Genesis Plus GX is also present in other multi-core emulator setups like BizHawk

  • mupen64plus-ui-python

    A frontend for Mupen64Plus

For standalone I actually prefer M64py (https://github.com/mupen64plus/mupen64plus-ui-python) as it has several plug-ins to choose from, which is handy when some games seem to work better with one than another. Short blurb:
