In GNOME Wayland this is significantly harder because automation tools like xdotool are a security concern as those read/write your input constantly: in Wayland the only one allowed to do so is ideally your compositor. If you disregard this then you could use ydotool to send keystrokes, write a GNOME extension to get the window class of the focused window and register a global keybinding to run a ydotool script when said window class matches the one of your calculator.
