No, AdAway only uses hosts files, basically a list of domains addresses to block. This is a css-based list, that must be used in ublock origin or AdGuard for Android. See the instructions for installation info.

I've had alot of success with installing pi hole on a raspberry Pi and it blocks everything. Even all the telemetry your smart devices try to send back home. You can even route your mobile data through it. Kinda cool. Not to hard to set up if you have the hardware. https://pi-hole.net/
