Speaking of Anime, I do have a 4K monitor and it really has noticeable "scaling" artefact, but thankfully there's a real-time upscaling shader like Anime4K (https://github.com/bloc97/Anime4K) and I use it for my MPV (https://mpv.io/), and it looks good and sharp, just don't forget to turn it off for the non-anime video.
