As a side note, Home Assistant also runs my home security system as well. I used the Konnected Alarm Panel Pro to re-use existing hardwired sensors from an older security system that was already in place. I then used the Alarmo integration for Home Assistant which basically makes setting up an alarm system a breeze.
The combination of all this is a completely locally controlled security system with the flexibility to do essentially anything I want. Professional monitoring is also possible using the Noonlight Home Assistant integration but I haven't found a need for it yet. I also have a backup ISP setup using a T-Mobile 500mb plan for $5/month that if my primary ISP is down, my mini PC server that runs Home Assistant (which includes my security system) falls back to the backup T-Mobile ISP.
Frigate NVR is an awesome open source project that not only provides recording capabilities, but also object detection with very good performance utilizing Coral AI's EdgeTPU. It also integrates well with Home Assistant so it opens up the door to do basically whatever you want.
